If universities and colleges do not lead in taking on this responsibility [to confront the climate crisis], we will miss this epochal opportunity to serve the planetary interest.
– Dr. Christina Paxson, President, Brown University
From devastating fires in Australia, to unprecedented drought in Europe, to historic flooding in the Great Plains, anthropogenic climate change is driving global ecological catastrophe. Brown University is a world leader in teaching, research, and education and plays a major role in local, national and international affairs. Now is the time for Brown to become a leader in responding to the climate crisis.
Scholars at Brown for Climate Action (SBCA) are faculty, staff, post-docs, and students who believe that Brown University should be a leader in responding to the climate crisis. Climate change poses an existential threat. As such, we believe that the University should respond vigorously and comprehensively. We celebrate the leadership that Brown has already shown in addressing on-campus emissions and divesting from carbon-extraction companies. We also recognize that much more can be done.
Join us! SBCA is open to any and all from the Brown community who want to help push our university to respond on a scale that is commensurate with the crisis we face.
